Our company began back in 1939, Gilman Marshall, actually started raising ferrets as a hobby (because that isn’t strange), as at the time ferrets were used for hunting small game and rodents and Gilman had a taste for blood sports. Initially Marshall’s ferrets were marketed to the public as pets, and for hunting rats and other pests. However, when the ferret was exploited by the vivisection industry Marshall saw the chance to make loads of money!
As it became common among pharmacologists to exploit and torture multiple species while convincing the public it was scientific, it became standard practice to use dogs in addition to rodents in the development of new drugs.
In 1962, the Marshall family established a colony of beagle dogs specifically for this torture. From the very beginning, the Marshalls placed a priority on generating maximum profit with no regard for animal welfare. The Marshalls also created a culture of collaboration with their customers, and encouraged customers to keep everything quiet and under the radar as this way they could all make lots of money and try to keep it as secretive as possible!
Over the years, we have added many additional species as this means more profit; and today, Marshall has locations all over the world like here at MBR Acres. However, even though we are a global company, we have still remained a family company.
The company is led today by Scott Marshall (smarshall@marshallbio.com) although we here at MBR pretty much are a headless monster with no management to oversee the misfits we call staff!
